Taksim Free Tour
At 10:30 am, we'll meet at the Republic Monument in the center of Taksim Square, the heart of modern Istanbul. Once we've met our guide, they'll tell us about the history surrounding the monument, the founding of Turkey as a Republic and the figure of Atatürk.
Together with our English-speaking guide, we will walk down Istiklal Street, one of the main commercial arteries of the city, while admiring some of the most important monuments in the area. You'll see sites like the Cistern of Maksem, the Armenian Catholic Church, the Greek Orthodox Church, the elegant Çiçek Pasajı ('Flower Passage' in Turkish) and the Galatasaray Lyceum, one of the oldest and most prestigious schools in the country.
Our free tour of the most modern part of Istanbul will also take us to some places where tradition is exemplified at its best, such as the fish market or the school of dervishes, which houses a Muslim religious order of great influence in Turkey.
We will end our tour in the vicinity of the huge Galata Tower, an important symbol of Istanbul since its construction in the 14th century. Around 1 pm, the free tour will come to an end.
